The 2016 Open in Review...

Well, we made it. Five weeks of grueling workouts, of anticipation, nerves and adrenaline and of Friday nights dedicated to CrossFit. To say I'm proud of those of you who took a major step outside of your comfort zone and competed in the Open would be the understatement of the year. Let me attempt to come up with an inclusive list of why I'm proud:

  • You signed up. Sure - it's one thing to say "I'll do the Open workouts" but it's quite another to register and publicly submit your scores each week. That takes a LOT of guts.
  • You did WODs RX. Maybe not all of them, and maybe you were less than pleased with your score(s), but you pushed harder than you would have in any regular class. That ALSO takes a lot of guts.
  • You were part of something bigger. The camaraderie and energy that took place during the Open WODs was pretty thrilling. PRs hit, struggles felt big time - and you helped to create an atmosphere of support and community. The power of that cannot be underestimated.
  • You dedicated five weeks of your time. You probably blew off some friends for happy hour on one of the Friday nights. You may have even called it a night early on Saturday because you knew you were going to re-test a WOD on Sunday. That's a commitment to this lifestyle and to your health.
No, we're not a regionals-bound gym but we are a place where you can continue to grow as an athlete and as a very important member of this DeCO family. Be proud of yourselves - I know I certainly am!
