Let’s talk about the Open. We have a little over two weeks to polish up some of the basic movements that we know we will see (pull-ups, burpees, the like) and to make insane guesses on what we might see this year that we haven’t seen before. Sure, the Open is considerably more tame than the Games, but there’s always a possibility of something crazy being thrown in there somewhere. I’ve competed in the Open twice, and it’s such a good time. Last year I was hardly able to walk much less do overhead walking lunges or toes to bar, so I opted out and will be doing the same this year. I’m in much better shape this year compared to last year, but I don’t quite trust myself enough yet to say no to a questionable movement when surrounded by such a fun energy during Open workouts. I’ll still be judging you so worry not, my friends. That Open energy is so great. I remember the incredible atmosphere last year during the bar muscle-up workout. So many people got their first bar muscle-up, and everyone was met with such support and excitement. It’s contagious. And it’s during times like those that you drink gallons of the CrossFit Kool Aid and go out and tell your friends all about it. Like I said, I didn’t compete, but it was so exciting to be around everyone and more or less share the same goal of just doing your best. Sure, we do that every day during our WOD, but there’s something about the Open that is just different. It’s magical. You know what I mean. And if you don’t, you should sign up for the Open and find out. Or just come down and party with us on Friday nights for five weeks. I’m already planning my desserts, and would happily take a suggestion or two for what you would like to see this year, so let me know! So what are you waiting for? Click here to sign up . It can be the great thing you do today!
