And now...Week 14!

Happy Wednesday, friends!

This time tomorrow, I’ll be in Vegas. Rachel’s birthday is Sunday, so she, Lauren, and I decided to take a summer trip to celebrate. I’m pretty excited, and hey...at least it’s a dry heat. Next week’s blog should be full of awesome pictures.

Did you do the InHouse Member Comp on Saturday? I did, and holy cow was it fun. I loved every single minute of it. Honestly, I walked in to DeCO on Saturday morning expecting to not finish within the time cap. I had only practiced the WOD once, and it took me about 30 minutes to get through. But on Saturday I finished with time to spare! I finished in a little over 9 minutes, which I was very impressed by. I don’t care that I didn’t win anything. I beat myself on Saturday and I think that’s a pretty huge victory. It was amazing how I turned all the nervousness I was feeling into helpful energy. I was sure I was going to throw up, or pass out, or maybe both, but instead I just lifted some heavy s***. I feel really great and very proud that I decided to participate. I can’t wait to do another one.
My parents came to watch everything go down, mostly because all I do these days is talk about CrossFit and how much I love it, but also to be supportive. My parents are in the middle of their own health journey, which is something I admire greatly. My mom has lost just shy of 200 pounds in a little over a year! I can’t even believe how different she looks and it’s great to know that she is feeling so much better. One day after a Saturday WOD she met me outside DeCO to get something out of my car. I was feeling pretty strong, and my mom was looking pretty thin, so I asked if I could pick her up. I totally picked her up, and also pulled a muscle in her back. Oops. But I couldn’t have even come close to picking her up a year ago, so it was a weird celebratory moment for both of us as she hobbled back to her car. I think my dad is going to come to at least one Saturday open class, just to try it out. He’s not a stranger to exercise, but it seems like he gets hurt often, so he’s a little nervous.

What both of my parents commented excessively on about the competition was how awesome the energy in the room was when it came to supporting other people. I think it really surprised them that, even though we were competing against each other, everyone was cheering for everyone else. They loved how loud it got for the last person in each heat when they had a few reps left. I love that too. I love the DeCO family! It’s hard to explain the DeCO environment to people that have never seen it before, so I am really glad my parents got to see us at our prime.

The softball team plays tonight at 8:20 at Citizen’s Park in Edgewater. Come cheer us on! We’re a pretty fun group, and we play some decent softball. We’ll bring the beer, you bring the cheering section.

Speaking of beer, don’t forget that Happy Hour is tomorrow (Thursday the 17th) at Prost (2540 19th St, Denver, CO 80211). Susan is working, so say hey and enjoy an extra drink or two for me! I’ll do the same for you in Vegas.

Enjoy your week, friends! Do something great today. I will if you will!
