And now...Week 21!
Happy Wednesday, friends!
Well, I think I am finally on my way up and out of the darkest part of my journey thus far, and hopefully the darkest part of my journey period. Thank you for all of your kind words, encouragement, and patience as I work toward a better me. The past three weeks have been the hardest three weeks of my life as I was letting all the truths and realities hit me in the face, but here I am alive and working it out. Often, literally.
My 1 RM (one rep max.) fest started last Sunday! Turns out it’s kind of a process. I had no idea! I was planning on retesting Jack on Sunday, but I did that on surprise WOD day last week. Rachel and Lauren needed to retest Jack though, so we all went to open gym and I started the 1RMF. (Sidenote: Lauren and Rachel KILLED their retest, seriously. They are such an inspiration to me both inside and outside of DeCO because they are unstoppable.) So, after plugging away and grabbing two of all the plates to play with, I finally have two of my spots filled in on the board.
I can do five unbroken double unders and my deadlift 1 RM is 225#. Yay!
I tweaked my back a little bit though, and I know there is at least one person reading this that was waiting for this moment! We all know all about the “dangers” of CrossFit and the high injury rates, but most of those injuries are due to poor coaching and/or bad form. This one was definitely not poor coaching – Andrew was right in front of me and helping me the entire time. My form slipped on one of my last attempts and my knees caved in instead of pushed out. I bailed close to right away, and then went back and did it the correct way. Shoot, form makes a difference! Who knew? My back feels basically back to normal, which is super great, and now I know what definitely not to do! Win win? Sure.
I only have a little over a month left of my formal blogging journey with you, friends. And it is going to be the best month yet! It’s crazy how quickly time has passed, but on the flip side it’s unbelievable that DeCO has only been a part of my life for a little over five months. I would have never gotten to where I am now if I was still spending 4560 minutes a few days a week at 24 Hour Fitness . Maybe I would be more comfortable, but I wouldn’t have grown nearly as much as I have over the past five months, and particularly as much as I have over the past three weeks. It’s
sort of a chicken vs. egg dilemma I find myself in sometimes when I think about how DeCO and CrossFit have impacted my life, but I will save that for another day. Do something great today, friends. I will if you will!
