I’ve been a member at practically every chain gym in the country. Sometimes more than one at a time. I literally at one point had a membership to one gym three blocks down on the left and three blocks down on the right because neither one offered everything I was looking for. The large chain gym felt impersonal and the small boutique gym didn’t provide the setting to work out as intensely as I sometimes wanted. I saw a nutritionist across town, a massage therapist even further across town and a chiropractor who was only available certain hours, two days a week. There are only so many hours in a day!
About eight years ago, I became a personal trainer at a gorgeous, upscale chain gym in New York City. The machines were state of the art, cold towels were provided to members, the locker room had luxury products – yet the owner didn’t even know MY name, let alone the names of the 1,000+ members. When I moved to Colorado to enhance my quality of life while working in a career that helps others do the same, it all clicked – I want to provide that atmosphere I always sought in a gym. A place that combined all the components I credit for keeping me well – fitness, nutrition coaching, massage and chiropractic – a community where, at the risk of using a cliché, everyone knows your name. This is what CrossFit DeCO will be. Whether clients are looking for a killer CrossFit strength and conditioning program, more personalized one-on-one training, nutritional guidance, physical and mental balance, or all of the above, CrossFit DeCO will support them in meeting their needs.
Emily Smith - Manager/Coach
- CrossFit Level 1
I am a born and raised Florida girl who recently moved to Colorado and I am loving every second of it! I’ve spent my entire life in Orlando, Florida with the last four years filled with teaching high school chemistry and physics, as well as coaching cross country and weightlifting. I decided to move to Denver to get a big change in scenery and culture, particularly in regards to education, health, and fitness.
As a youngster I participated in competitive dance (ballet, tap, and “all that jazz”). The pageantry of dance drew me to sports like running and lifting where there’s no fluff or nonsense; you either get the lift or you don’t. You either run fast, or you don’t! You can’t argue with numbers, whether it be on the clock or on the bar. This is what drew me to CrossFit as well, its focus on measurable health and fitness markers, and CONSTANTLY improving them.
Aside from the sport’s objectivity in measuring results, it is the immeasurable aspects that fuel me as both an individual and a coach. Crossfit is so powerful in building a community while maintaining the feel of an individualized sport. It also instills confidence like no other by pushing the threshold of physical and mental tolerances. I’ve never left a workout feeling disappointed in what happened, and this is my goal for YOU. I want you to leave feeling accomplished but itching for the next improvement. I want you to walk out of class feeling like you can take on whatever is outside of the gym, whether it be a physical or a mental challenge. That is the purpose of Crossfit, to “bforeverfit” and equipped to tackle life with confidence and enjoyment!
Brian Firooz aka "Precious Baby" - Coach
- CrossFit Level 1
Hey! Brian here, but most people at the gym just call me “Precious” for short. I am a Colorado Native, that’s right I knew how great this state was before y’all moved here, and no those sunsets never get old.
I have a strong passion for work with kids and spend most of my time working and volunteering with different organizations around town.
I’ve always been a scrawny guy, I am 6’3” and mostly Kenyan - what did you expect? I was a runner for years and then slowly got into bootcamps and more sports conditioning. I tried CrossFit as a way to try and become more of a brawny guy…turns out I gain strength way easier than bulk.
But DeCO isn’t about meatheads and how much weight you crush everyday, it’s about fitness, fun and community. Some of my favorite people I get to see everyday at the gym. We laugh, bond, and sweat up a storm too. We work hard and achieve life and fitness goals. I am so honored to be a part of a team that gets to help coach our great members to become stronger - physically, mentally, and socially.

I was born and raised a few miles west of Baltimore City, Maryland. I played several sports as a kid, some for many years. However, it was not until I was in college that I became heavily interested in personal fitness. I liked it so much that I switched my college major. I graduated from the University of Maryland in 2016 with a degree in Kinesiology. Since then, I moved out to this beautiful state for the incredible outdoor lifestyle and novelty of living in a new city.
CrossFit for me is about fun. It is about being able to say "that is something I could never do before". It is about being the best version of yourself. The ability to set what seem like impossible goals, and then cruising right on by those goals and on to the next set. If you want to be amazing you have to do amazing things, and CrossFit is an amazing thing.
My experience with DeCO has been unbelievable. For a very long time, I thought that team sports were the only way to bond to others while being physically active. Working out simply meant getting sweaty with some headphones on. Working and exercising at DeCO has been the complete opposite experience for me. Everyone is incredible in supporting and working with one another and I am proud to be a part of something so cool.

I started my yoga journey in 2003 and I loved it so much that I continued my education with instructor certifications in 2004. I taught yoga in Colorado Springs for 4 years before moving to Denver and finding my other favorite activity – CrossFit! I’ve been a member at CrossFit DeCO for the past several years and I think adding yoga to the services offered is a great way for athletes to further their CrossFit practice. Yoga brings additional focus on breath, stretching and mindfulness which is great to take “off the mat” and apply to crossfit and life in general. I teach a yoga-for-crossfitters class where the focus is on that week’s recovery and needs and I encourage questions, requests, and conversation before, during and after class. I try to design classes around what people are interested in working on, and I’m available to meet before class if any newbies out there want a quick rundown on what to expect. I encourage everyone to give yoga a shot to advance your crossfit skills, find increased flexibility, expand your recovery, and make new memories on and off the mat.
Carrie Bohlmann - Licensed Massage Therapist
I graduated from the Costa Rica School of Massage Therapy in 2009; a school I chose to attend based on the holistic and spiritual approach to massage which they offered. It was an amazing journey of learning, practicing and self-discovery for which I have no comparison.
My first introduction to massage was to fulfill a need to “zone out”. Later, it was to help with an injury I’d received where I couldn’t move my neck. Even later, through frustration with an illness and various other injuries that my doctor was unable to help with, I discovered that I could use many other alternative healing methods as my choice for health care. That’s when I fell in love with massage! And that’s when I realized I needed to take a pro-active approach to health care rather than a re-active one. Since then, the face of my health care looks much different and I’ve been so much healthier as a result.
When a change of career was needed I just knew massage therapy was what I was meant to do! Using an intuitive blend of massage modalities for each session, such as Deep Tissue, CranioSacral Therapy, Integrative Massage I work with you and what your body needs for the day.
I believe that the body has a natural ability to heal itself and sometimes it just needs a little guidance. The numerous benefits of massage are amazing. I’d love to be the one to introduce you to them!

I’m a Colorado native from Fort Collins who loves optimizing and analyzing human movement. I’m new to the CrossFit arena, but have already enjoyed the close-knit family feeling of CrossFit DeCO. I grew up in a gym due to my dad owning and operating a small gym for 10 years. CrossFit reminds me of the same type of culture where everyone knows everyone and we help each other achieve our goals. Throughout my life I’ve played football, track, and basketball and loved every second of them. I have enjoyed doing Strongman training and am very excited to have CrossFit added to my movement repertoire. My goal is to help members stay out of pain and optimize the movement needed for CrossFit and any other activity they enjoy. Gray Cook said it best, “First move well, then move often." I’m excited to join the wonderful community of CrossFit DeCO and bforeverfit.
